Neither the Tour de France nor the UCI is going to stop Chris Froome from racing before his salbutamol doping case is resolved, and I say hallelujah!
I say this not because I like Froome. I say this because for so long pro cycling has been so completely incapable of fair and unbiased application of its rules. They have had such a boner over the last few years to catch dopers, that they would knee-jerk and trample a rider’s rights. All you had t0 do if you wanted to eliminate a rider was to scribble some accusation about doping on a cocktail napkin and mail it to WADA or the UCI. They (or their team, out of fear from public backlash) would promptly yank that rider, even from a race he was currently riding, before the suspension and appeals process took its course.
There’s this big hue and cry from the commentariat for Froome to be pulled from racing the TdF because of his adverse analytical finding, especially now that he just won the Giro under the “cloud” of this case, but they all forget that the whole process was supposed to be confidential in the first place! What about the presumption of innocence? It’s been nowhere to be found in cycling until now. I’m glad sanity seems to be prevailing for the moment.

Presumption of innocence has been dead for years, if not decades.

There’s no such thing as “innocent until proven guilty” when it comes to the public. They all form their opinions and then pass them off as facts.
I was listening to NPR the other day when On Point was on (bad idea) and they were talking about Weinstein. And the caller at the time said he KNEW he was guilty so he was glad he was turning himself in.
HOW did he know??? Was a he a NY prosecutor? Nope, he is just a regular Joe who apparently knows everything like everyone else.

So true, but at least I like when the rules go by that principle. Sure, we get some OJs released, but it’s better than the alternative.

I stopped listening to NPR a long time ago for the same reason I never listened to conservative call in shows. Everyone knows everything based on what they were told on the internet. Critical thinking is dead.

Jesus fucking Christ.
How many women does it take to say that the same person raped them before you take them at their word.
Fuck off with that shit.
And if you think our judicial system only deals with facts, you might want to rethink your career as a lawyer. Or get a clue.

I wonder what sort of critical thinking skills it takes to trust a highly flawed judicial system in favor of the word of dozens of women...
But yeah, talk radio.

Whoa I never said anything about whether I thought he was guilty or not. I was using it as an example of our culture today and how people form opinions based on what they FEEL, nor based on actual facts.
And you’re right, our courts are not decided solely on facts. But that’s what they’re supposed to be based on. While I haven’t been through on a jury, I went over a lot of jury instructions when I took criminal law. But no matter how many instructions a judge gives a panel, people will instinctively go off what they FEEL.

This wouldn’t be an issue if we had a doping league where everyone tried to come up with the absolute best performance enhancing drug cocktails
Welp, that’s my good idea for the day!

That was great. Also, I recognized nobody in the skit or in the closing sequence so I had to open it in YouTube to catch the date.... 1988!

It’s okay, it’s a sensitive topic which can obviously bring up a lot of emotion. I have intentionally tried to avoid talking about it since it has become news. I was raised by a single mom, with three older sisters, and only one older brother, but I still don’t think that gives me the right to speak for other women on the subject, so I have avoided opening my mouth about it.

Yup, everybody on that cast moved on or is dead.
